#AFxAN collaboration

Hi all

Just a quick post to tell you all about an exciting collaboration Accessory Freaks are doing with an amazing charity called Anthony Nolan, hence the #AFxAN collaboration post title. You’re probably wondering what the picture of the Little Mix girls in a futuristic setting is to do with it all….well carry on reading, all will be revealed.

Anthony Nolan

Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer and blood disorders. Every day, they match incredible individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow, umbilical cord blood donations to people with blood cancer and blood disorders who desperately need lifesaving transplants.

I have exhausted all possible ways of doing my bit for my favourite charities, I’ve joined the stem cell register (sadly not been a match for anyone), spread the word about the register and encouraged friends and family to join, done far too many fundraising events and think I’ve got to the point where everyone is fed up of giving me money haha. If you do a lot of fundraising you know how awkward it gets asking people to sponsor you. So, I thought it was time to do something a little different and here it is!

I thought what better way to spread the word about Anthony Nolan charity and support the amazing work they do than through the Accessory Freaks network. To support the amazing work the charity is doing Accessory Freaks will be donating £15 from each sale of the Funny Bones necklace to Anthony Nolan. The whole theme of the bones seemed to fit really well with the charity. The necklace is available in white and mirrored gold, handmade in the UK and available from the Accessory Freaks website by clicking here! Some of our supporters and Little Mix fans may remember Leigh-Anne wearing the gold mirror version of this necklace in We Love Pop magazine. We’re not only hoping to raise money for the charity but spread the word about the amazing work they do.

I really hope you will all help to spread the word about the work this great charity is doing and help spread the word about the collaboration and use hashtag #AFxAN where possible. The more necklaces we sell the more money we donate to Anthony Nolan. If you would like to help spread the word via social media, here are the links and handles you will need.

If you haven’t heard of Anthony Nolan before here’s a little bit about how the charity started. If you want more information make sure you head over to their website by clicking HERE!

When and why was it started?

The story starts in 1971, a boy called Anthony Nolan was born with a rare condition called Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome. The only cure was a bone marrow transplant. Sadly none of his family were a match, and a transplant using bone marrow from an unrelated donor had never succeeded. There was no system to find matching unrelated donors, either.

In 1973 a boy called Simon had undergone the first successful unrelated donor transplant. This is when Anthony’s mother, Shirley Nolan had the idea to start a bone marrow register to connect unrelated donors with people like her son, who desperately needed a transplant.

So, it all began in 1974. With her three-year-old son Anthony still in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant, Shirley Nolan set up the world’s first register to match donors with people in desperate need. The register grew throughout the seventies. Sadly, it couldn’t help Anthony Nolan, who died in 1979, aged eight.

Thanks to the great work of Shirley Nolan for setting up the Anthony Nolan charity they are they are helping 3 people each day to find that lifesaving match!!
