Hotel Review- Riu Club Hotel, Gran Canaria

Hi

If you read many of my blogs, you will know I’m pretty last-minute when it comes to booking my trips. I had a bit of annual leave that i needed to use up before the financial year ended and didn’t want to spend my days off being stuck at home. I also felt that myself, my mom and dad really needed to get away and have a proper break.

As I was going away with my parents I wanted something a bit chilled out rather than my usual trips which involves a lot of sight-seeing and running about from one end of the country to the other. My mom is not great at walking for long periods of time due to her health, so i wanted something that was enjoyable and fun but not too challenging that she would need another holiday to recover from this one. On recommendation from many family friends we booked a 5 day trip to Maspalomas which is located on the South of Gran Canaria island about 30 minutes from the airport. This particular part of the island is pretty flat, so easy to get around. I booked the flights through Ryanair and the hotel which we stayed in was Riu Club Hotel which overlooks the Meloneras Coast in Maspalomas. I have previously stayed in a Riu hotel in Morocco and was really impressed with the service so thought i’d give them another go, as they seem to have hotels all over the World. Thankfully i was not disappointed, I had the best time and an AMAZING room. The location of this hotel was perfect. It was a sea front hotel and there was a shopping centre few hundred metres away. A really pleasant walk in the evening along the sea front, 10 minute walk to the beach. If there was anything else we needed or wanted to see I’d hired a car so we could get about.

So a bit about my stay at Riu Club hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by lovely members of staff who instantly helped with the luggage and sat us down. The lobby area was lovely, very open and inviting and fresh with many people just chilling out relaxing here on their phones, iPads etc. The check in procedure was really quick. As we arrived before the check in time I was already prepared to wait for our room, but thankfully our room was ready which was a bonus. The 5 night stay was all-inclusive, so that included all food and drinks (including alcoholic drinks). At the time of check in we were all given wrist bands so that staff knew we were staying at this hotel. The hotel had a wide choice of food available at three different restaurants, my favourite being the asian restaurant called Kaori.

Now onto the room, IT WAS AMAZING!!!! The room we had was the swim-up suite which comes with a private pool (YES A PRIVATE POOL), mini bar, ice machine, tv, fridge, safe etc and was spacious enough for 3 adults as there was one double bed in the bedroom and a pull out sofa bed in the living room.  Once we entered the room we were instantly impressed. It was spotless and really well presented, light and fresh, the decor was subtle but looked fab and it was super spacious. Can I just go back to the fact we had a private pool, it was better than I expected.

When exploring a hotel room, one of my first things  I have to check is the bathroom as this has to be spotless and also I like to check and see if they have slippers and gowns…and they did!! This makes me so happy as they’ve gone the extra bit to make you feel comfortable and at home. There was a really generous supply of soap, shampoo, conditioner etc even though I tend to always use my own. The bathroom was spacious with a double sink, huge mirror and very spacious stand in shower.

As the trip was to relax we didn’t really plan a whole lot and stayed on the resort and the local area for a fair bit of the trip. The actual resort is pretty big so plenty of space to relax. There are also plenty of activities to join in on, go to the gym, have a swim in one of two pool’s or the adult only infinity pool, yoga, table tennis, volleyball just to name some of them. The resort is super safe as when you check in you are given a wrist bad and there is security at the entrance to ensure strangers are not just walking in and out. The one thing I love doing particularly when I’m on holiday is watching the sunset. No matter how many sunsets I experience they wow me every time and this hotel was located in a perfect spot to view the sun going down. As you came out of the entrance onto the sea front you had the perfect spot to sit and watch the sky put on a show. If you look to the right of picture below the building on the right past the trees is out hotel.

The island is pretty small and the driving is really easy so if you’re a confident driver I would suggest to hire yourself a car and explore the island. If you do, I highly recommend you take a drive to the top of Pico De Las Nieves which is the highest point of the island. It is a beautiful drive and you’ll capture some great views from the top. If you want to read all about it please click here as I have done a separate blog post all about it.

So overall I was super chuffed with my stay at this hotel. The hotel staff provided a flawless service and went the extra mile where ever possible from the moment we stepped into the hotel to the moment we left. I would highly recommend staying at the Riu Club hotel. Big thank to everyone at Riu Club hotel for such a pleasant stay. The private pool was the highlight of this room and I thought it was well worth the money and I would defiantly stay there again.
