Hey all, hope you’re all having a lovely day. Super wet and grey in Nottingham today, so a perfect day to sit indoors, listen to the rain and write a blog post for you.
This one is about Lancôme’s new liquid lipsticks called Matte Shakers. They are available in 7 different shades. I was kindly sent a couple to try out, one is in the shade Yummy Pink and the other Kiss me Cherie and I’ve been trying them out for the last couple of months.
Firstly the packaging, I have to say I haven’t really come across such a cute concept for a liquid lipstick like this one. The lid is black and base is clear, so you can see the actual colour of the product and its super cute and chic. The product is super easy to use, give the bottle a little shake and that will ensure the product coats the cushion applicator, unscrew the lid and you’re ready to apply. To ensure you have a good amount of product on the applicator you do need to give it a good shake. The cushion applicator is very different to other liquid lipsticks I’ve used which normally come with a doe foot applicator which is thinner and makes it easier to line the lips and get the perfect shape. With the cushion applicator I did struggle to get the line perfect, I would definitely recommend using a lipliner.
The colours range between pink, orange and red shades. The colours are very bold and the product is highly pigmented and when applied leaves a beautiful opaque finish. If you take a look at the image below you will see what the two shades look like on my skin tone (I am Indian and do have a tan at the moment). Once applied you may think that they’re not actually matte but you need to give them a minute or so to dry. I have used other liquid lipsticks in the past and found them to be too drying and making my lips feel like they might crack if I smile, these are not drying in the slightest. Once this products on it doesn’t feel like I’ve got a load of product on. The consistency of the product isn’t thick and sticky and it easy to apply.
This product does stain your lips so if you’re not keen on that you won’t like these. If you look at the picture above that shows the stains left on my hand after I’d given it a good scrub with warm water and soap. I love the fact that this product leaves a stain on my lips as even after the product comes off I still have a little colour to my lips and I can apply a little lip balm and still have a slight pink or red tint. I generally have darker pigmented lips and like the stained look. If you’re looking for a light stain on the lips and not the full bold look, I managed to achieve this by not shaking the bottle at all or just a little and then applying it gently and rubbing it in with my finger. The intensity of colour is buildable I would say. This product has GREAT staying power. I can put it on and not worry that after have a drink or bite to eat I’m going to be left with nothing on my lips. Generally lipsticks don’t last long on me, its like I lick it all off.
I’m particularly loving wearing these to work. My main day job involves working in a laboratory. I am always changing in and out of garments, running around the lab and I don’t have time to keep tabs on my lipstick. Once it’s on, it’s on and it needs to stay on. I don’t have the time to keep reapplying and checking up on it or checking my teeth to see if I have lipstick on them.
So onto the shades that I have tried. Out of the two I love the Yummy Pink. When I first received that I instantly thought that Yummy Pink would be far to bright for me and the red would suit me more, but I was wrong. The Yummy Pink shade looks terrifying when you look at the bottle but when i put it on my opinion completely changed. I wasn’t too keen on the shade Kiss me Cherie for my particular skin tone even though the lipstick is gorgeous, I would probably go for Red’y in 5. I also want to get my hands on Beige Vintage but every time I go to order it, its out of stock.
I really hope they release more shades, as 7 is just not enough. I know my mom is really keen on them but she wears darker/deeper shades of brown and plum and there isn’t anything for her.
The Matte shakers are available from the Lancôme website by clicking here or your local Boots store and are priced at £19.50 each.
