Review of Courtyard Marriott Shanghai Hotel

For my stay in Shanghai I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Shanghai Central hotel for 2 nights.

The hotel is located 2 hundred metres away from a metro station, which is very handy as there is a choice of 5 lines making it very easy to access the tourist spots. The area surrounding the hotel is quiet even though it’s on a main road and there are a few shops and a McDonald’s near by if you get peckish.

We caught a cab straight from the train station to the hotel and arrived about 10am. Soon as the cab pulled up, we jumped out and we were greeted by staff who helped us with our luggage. All the staff were so welcoming and helpful, check-in process was very quick and easy and even though check-in was at 2pm my room was ready, which I was really happy about. The reception/lobby area was very modern and open with free wi-fi available to all guests and plenty of sofa’s and seating available for you to relax and catch up with family, get up-to-date with social media and post your snaps on Instagram. They had a tea station in reception/lobby and provided free hot tea for all the guests. I fell in love with the lemon tea and would fill up my flask in the morning before heading out. I thought this was a really lovely touch, not something I’ve seen in many hotels that I’ve stayed in.

I had a Deluxe room with a city view for 844 Yuan a night without breakfast. My room was very spacious, bright and airy with large windows. The room was sectioned off really nicely, with a little work space area with a desk and chair where I set up all my electronics, chargers etc and alongside a one seater mini sofa which I used to get ready on in the morning and put my makeup on. My bed was king size and super comfortable, the bathroom had a shower which had a clear window that looked into the bedroom, which seems to be a very popular in Asia. But don’t panic if you are sharing the room with a friend or colleague, you can press a button located in the bathroom that will make the window solid, just be careful not to accidentally press it whilst you’re in butt naked hahaha.  In the bathroom shampoo, shower gel, two bottles of mineral water were provided every day. Also I was super happy when I spotted a gown and slippers in the wardrobe, something I really love about hotels and actually get a little disappointed when I can’t find them.

I had the best nights sleep in that king size bed, I’m not sure after sleeping on a train the previous night made the bed feel better than it was, or it was actually that great…either way I loved the bed.

I purposely opted for a room without breakfast as I wanted to explore the local food and not just have standard hotel breakfast. This encouraged me to get up early and go out for breakfast and try new things. If you did want to add breakfast at this particular hotel it was an extra 158Yuan per person.

The hotel did have other facilities available to guests which I didn’t get to try out, so I can’t really comment on them. There is a gym located at the hotel which has all the basic equipment found in a gym; treadmill, bikes, free weights etc. I had the intention of going to the gym, but I just couldn’t face it. I then later found out there was a pool, which I would have loved to relax in.

Every member of staff I dealt with went the extra mile and offered great assistance. I had an idea of what i wanted to do in Shanghai as I had done a lot of research before getting there, but the staff really helped in advising how to get to places, when to go etc

I would like to say a BIG Thank you to the staff at the Courtyard Marriott for such a pleasant visit and great hospitality. I had a very pleasant stay and If I am back in Shanghai anytime soon I will definitely stay with you again. Highly recommend the Courtyard Marriott hotel for your stay in Shanghai, click here to check out more pictures and information about the hotel and make a booking.
