For my stay in Tokyo I stayed in the E hotel Higashi Shinjuku for two nights and had a double room. The room was approximately £65 per night.
The hotel is located literally 30 seconds walk away from the Higashi Shinjuku subway station. There are quite a few shops close by, a cafe beneath the hotel and a McDonald’s across the road.
I arrived at the hotel fairly early in the morning and were greeted by really friendly staff. Sadly the check-in was 3pm which is fairly late in the afternoon and there is not much room for negotiating the check-in time unless you pay the early check-in charge which I had to go for as I had been travelling and wanted to freshen up. The good thing is they are have luggage area so if don’t want to pay the extra early check-in charge you can leave your luggage and continue to explore. Sadly they don’t really have an area for you to freshen up.
The room seemed a lot smaller than it appeared in the pictures on Expedia and the bathroom is the size of an airplane toilet. It has to be the smallest room I have ever stayed in. Even though everything was on the small size it was spotless and had a great nights sleep. I would say a double room is only suitable for one person especially if you have luggage. I actually struggled to find floor space to open my suitcase without it being in the way or kicking it. My favourite thing about this hotel room has to be the toilet haha, I know that’s an unusual one. It came with its very own remote and many settings. I later discovered this was quite normal throughout Tokyo. The bathroom was supplied with plenty towels and a Japanese style gown and slippers. A TV, hair dryer and kettle was provided in the room along with two bottles of mineral water which were replenished daily.
Be warned if you are taking hair straighteners for example GHD’s or other electronic equipment they may not work over in Japan and this is due to the voltage of them. Sadly my GHD’s refused to work!

I loved the fact that the hotel had a washing machine and dryer located on various floors throughout the hotel which was very convenient. They were simple to use, you loaded the machine, inserted the money, closed it up and hit go. This was perfect as i could wake up, put in a load and then get it out once I’d done showering and getting ready. On every other floor there were also vending machines so you could grab yourself a drink in the middle of the night.
The owner of the hotel was very kind and offered us complimentary breakfast for our two-day stay which was lovely. The breakfast is not served at the hotel but Tully’s cafe which is located beneath hotel. Each guest has an option to purchase a breakfast voucher for 500Yen with the value of 600Yen in the cafe. The cafe is lovely and have a good selection to offer. If you don’t fancy that you can pop over to the McDonald’s which is across the road. Remember the McDonald’s menu won’t be the same as where you are from, the menu is tailored to each country so you might be able to try something you’ll never get at home.
If you are not to bothered about the size of the room, bathroom and on a budget, then I would suggest to go ahead with this hotel. Based on location it is great as its right next door to the tube station and easy to access most popular areas of Tokyo. If I return to Japan for a couple of nights I would definitely stay here again. If my stay was any longer I would probably try a hotel that was a little more spacious and airy. Based on the hotel itself and location I would say it is worth it.
I would like to thank the owner and all the staff at E hotel Higashi for looking after us and the complimentary breakfast vouchers. I had a very pleasant stay. To find out more about E hotel Higashi Hotel or make a booking please click here.
(Sadly i seem to have lost the pictures of the hotel room I stayed in but I have inserted pictures from the E hotel website and TripAdvisor).
