On my recent road trip to Amsterdam, we were recommended by some locals to stop by and visit the village of Kinderjink which is home to 19 authentic windmills from the 18th Century. We took their advice and planned our visit.
Kinderjink is located approximately 1 hour 20 mins south of Amsterdam. As Kinderjink was kind of on the way back to Dunkirk where we would be catching a ferry back to the UK, we decided to leave the visit to the last day. If you haven’t got your own transport there are day trips and excursions available from most of the tourist shops around the centre of Amsterdam. As I haven’t tried any of them I am unable to recommend any.
During my visit we were able to stroll the grounds and even have the opportunity to explore one of the windmills. It was amazing to see how people live and lived. They were a lot more spacious than I imagined.
It was a lovely little stop off and split the journey back to Dunkirk. I would definitely recommend people to take the time and visit Kinderjink, nice little break from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. Next time I visit Netherlands (and I’m sure I will) I would like to spend a couple of days in Amsterdam because I just love it, but I would like to explore other parts of the country.
There is a small fee to visit the windmills and the money is used to maintain the site. Click here to take you to the website for full prices as they may change.
