Music To My Ears

I know I must sound crazy to most of you when I say, I love to work out. I get a real buzz and good feeling deep inside and I feel energised and generally buzzing after completing a workout. Sense of achievement!!

I love to workout to music as it really gets me buzzing, focused and ready to hit my workout hard. I usually play a playlist I’ve created on Spotify…I LOVE Spotify, I think its great for creating playlists and exploring new music that you might not come across. I’m an iPhone user and when I workout I used to use the standard apple headphones that come with the phone. There’s a few things I didn’t like about using these headphones in the gym especially, firstly the wires used to get in the way, whilst you’re running a headphone would fall out, or you’d somehow (don’t ask me how) get your hand caught up in the wires. Very irritating when you’re focusing on training. Also for long periods of time they’re not comfortable for me personally and if I am on the treadmill or cross trainer, they forever feel like they are going to fall out.

So, I decided as this fitness thing was a lifestyle change and not just a phase, I would invest in some wireless headphones.

After a lot of research I decided to get the wireless Powerbeats2 headphones in white. I’ve been using them for a couple of months now and tried them on various pieces of machinery at the gym including weights and a fair bit on the cross trainer and treadmill and they have been EXCELLENT. They come with the original buds on the headphones and then 3 other sizes. After changing the buds to the ones that fit my ears perfectly I have had no problems with the headphones falling out. If you’re looking for 100% noise cancellation then these might not be for you. After testing out all the buds it is possible to get close to getting 100% noise cancellation.  I’m not to concerned about 100% noise cancellation I don’t have a need for this feature. In fact I like to be able to hear my surroundings slightly when I work out, just for safety reasons, especially if I’m running outdoors.

They are super lightweight and you can’t even feel that on your ears. You don’t get that heavy feeling and achy ears.

They have an arm that goes over your ear and you can adjust the shape of fit your ear. I have no worries whilst working out. I often place my phone on the floor and don’t even strap it on my arm. Best thing is no matter how much I sweat it’s not going to accept them as they are sweat and water-resistant. Come in a nice compact hard shell case so you can keep them protected.

There are a couple of things I can’t seem to get used to, first thing is that the volume button is just behind your left ear which makes it a bit awkward to access it and adjust the volume. Being right-handed I would have probably preferred to have the volume control on the right. I’m guessing over time I will get used to it. Secondly the tangle free wire that goes around the back of your head can be adjusted and tightened. The excess wire can be a little long and whilst running can flap around and become quite irritating. This could be due to the fact I have a small head and therefore more excess wire.

The arm that goes around your arm is super flexible and fits comfortably around your ear. The battery charges fairly fast on these Beats. I’ve been caught out a couple of times before heading to the gym when I’ve turned them at the red lights on meaning I’ve only got 15 mins of use left. All I do is stick them on charge in the car as it comes with a USB cable. It takes me about 10-15 mins to drive to the gym and that’s plenty time to give them a quick charge.

These headphones are not cheap and retail at £169.95 on the Apple Store and are available in different colours.
It is a lot of money to spend on headphones, but if you are like me and you know you will be making good use out of them, its worth it. I use mine 3/4 times a week and don’t regret getting them at all.
